According to Charlie’s mother, Hannah, his love for music began before he could even walk. At the age of five, Charlie began teaching himself piano. By twelve he was studying the trombone, and at thirteen he added the bass guitar to his growing musical abilities. After studying music at Texas Tech University, Charlie moved to Dallas, Texas where he performed for seven years with the jazz fusion band Phyrework. During this time he also recorded with a group called LuBach, named after their hometown of Lubbock, Texas. The band came close to securing a major recording contract during the rise of Tony! Toni! Toné! While pursuing music in Los Angeles, Charlie experienced a life-changing moment. On January 26, 1990 he gave his life to Jesus Christ. His direction changed from simply pursuing music to using his gifts for ministry. In 1993 Charlie began playing bass for Prophet Kim Clement and in 1994 became his Worship and Praise Leader. During this season he ministered around the world and also worked alongside Israel Houghton, who was also mentored prophetically under Kim Clement. n 2004 Kim Clement commissioned Charlie to expand his ministry into local churches. What began as Operation Higher Praise eventually became BTL (Bass The Lord) Productions and today continues as BTL Ministries. Charlie married his high school sweetheart Sharon Ann Black on April 19, 1981. Together they have three children — Gerald Jermaine Jordan, Sean Eric Jordan, and Ashley Nichole Jordan — along with their adopted daughter from China, Jade Yunmiao Jordan. They are also blessed with nine grandchildren who are being raised to know and love God.
